On the 7th instant, I did myself the honor of laying before your Excellency a statement respecting British Coin, Dollars, and Rupees. I beg to corroborate a portion of that statement by the enclosed copy of an order of the Queen in Council, dated 14th September, 1838.
On the 23rd March 1825, an order in Council fixed the dollar at Four Shillings and Four Pence. This order was disannulled as regards the American Colonies by another order in Council of 7th September 1838, and, on the 14th of the same month and year, the enclosed Proclamation was issued.
